SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TOURNAMENTS
 
Over 14,000 schools form across the nation compete in regional and state Science Olympiad Tournaments for the right to represent their state at the National Science Olympiad Tournament which is held in May of each years at a leading university campus.

Students compete in 23 science events. Although some events require an individual from one team to compete against other individuals from other teams, most events require teamwork, group planning and cooperation The emphasis is on learning, participation, interaction, having fun, and developing team spirit.

The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions. The 23 challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology.

There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills, and science applications.

The top 2-3 teams from each Region (depending upon the number of teams competing) advance to the State Science Olympiad Tournament which is held at the University of Tennessee in April of each year.
 
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD DIVISIONS
 

Science Olympiad is grouped into 3 divisions:

Division A - Students in grades 3-6
Division B - Students in grades 6-9
Division C - Students in grades 9-12

Regional, State, and National Science Olympiad Tournaments are held for Division B and Division C schools. In Tennessee, there were 41 Division B Teams and 35 Division C teams in 5 Regional Tournaments across the state.
