Having a successful Science Olympiad requires a great deal of money. Funds must be raised for event supplies, equipment, and for travel to the Regional, State, and National Tournaments. The amount of money required each years can range from $12,000 to $25,000, depending upon the distance the team has to travel for the National Tournament.

Tennessee teams receive no funding from the state nor the school board. Each team must raise funds locally through the support and cooperation of individuals, businesses, and organizations. All coaches volunteer their time to work with students in this exceptional program.

The two winning teams of the State Science Olympiad Tournament receive some monetary support from the University of Tennessee and the State Science Olympiad Governing Board to help with travel expenses to the National Tournament .

Bearden Middle School Science Olympiad Boosters Organizations: (Bearden Middle School Science Olympiad, Inc.) The Science Olympiad Board was formed in 2003 for the purpose of raising money for the BMS Science Olympiad Team. This group engages in fundraising activities and is responsible for overseeing expenditures for the team. BMSSO is incorporated as a 501-C-3 tax-exempt status.
